History

The following timeline highlights some events in the Iowa Arabian Horse Association's history:
  • Founded February 26, 1944
  • 1973 - During the International convention in Boston, Massachusetts, a new regional plan was adopted by the delegates to International and it was announced that Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri fell into the category of Region XI.
  • 1983 - First IA-AHA show held where computers handled show entries.
  • 1989 - The IA-AHA donated $2,500 to ISU for their Equine Recovery Room and $8,500 to Camp Sunny Side.
  • 1990 - IA-AHA hosts the last Regional Championship show in Iowa.  Regional Championship show moves to Springfield, IL.
  • 1991 - Lyric Laughlin becomes the first Miss Rodeo Iowa to win on an Arabian horse.
  • 1992 - IA-AHA donates money to horse victims of Hurricane Andrew.
  • 1997 - IA-AHA held its first cutting show and hosted the Region XI Cutting Championship show in Waterloo, IA.
  • 2000 - Website launched.
  • 2003 - IA-AHA hosts the first Arabian Spooktacular show
  • 2009 - The Iowa Gold Star Futurity named Horse Show of the Year by Arabian Horse Times magazine.

Charities

Set up as a non-profit organization, the Iowa Arabian Horse Association (IA-AHA) supports different statewide charities.
  • ASPIRE Therapeutic Riding Program - a non-profit organization that specializes in offering unique therapy through various horseback riding techniques to individuals with disabilities. Visit the ASPIRE website to find out more about this program.

Scholarship Program

The Iowa Arabian Horse Association offers scholarships each year to graduating high school seniors and continuing education members.  In 2010, IA-AHA awarded $3,000.00 in scholarships.  Find out more.
