It is the mission of the Iowa Arabian Horse Association to foster & encourage the improvement of the Arabian horse in Iowa by providing exhibition, education, & promotional opportunities.

The following timeline highlights some events in the Iowa Arabian Horse Association's history:
- Founded February 26, 1944
- 1973 - During the International Arabian Horse Association convention in Boston, Massachusetts, a new regional plan was adopted by the delegates to the International Arabian Horse Association, and it was announced that Illinois, Iowa, and Missouri fell into the category of Region XI
- 1983 - First IaAHA show held where computers handled show entries
- 1989 - IaAHA donated $2,500 to Iowa State University for their Equine Recovery Room and $8,500 to Camp Sunny Side
- 1990 - IaAHA hosts the last Regional Championship show in Iowa
- 1991 - Lyric Laughlin becomes the first Miss Rodeo Iowa to win on an Arabian horse
- 1992 - IaAHA donates money to horse victims of Hurricane Andrew
- 1997 - IaAHA held its first cutting show and hosted the Region XI Cutting Championship show in Waterloo, IA
- 2000 - Website launched
- 2003 - IaAHA hosts the first Arabian Spooktacular show
- 2009 - The Iowa Gold Star Futurity named Horse Show of the Year by Arabian Horse Times magazine
- 2016 - IaAHA hosts its first sport horse show
