The Iowa Arabian Horse Association, established on February 26, 1944, has a rich history marked by significant milestones. In 1973, the association became part of Region XI during the International Arabian Horse Association convention. In 1983, it pioneered computer-handled show entries at its first show. The commitment to equine well-being is evident through donations to Iowa State University in 1989 and support for Camp Sunny Side.
Notable moments include Lyric Laughlin, the first Miss Rodeo Iowa, winning on an Arabian horse in 1991. The association extended its philanthropy by aiding horse victims of Hurricane Andrew in 1992. Diversifying its events, the first cutting show took place in 1997, followed by hosting the Region XI Cutting Championship in 1997.
Embracing technology, the association launched its website in 2000. The Arabian Spooktacular show made its debut in 2003, while the Iowa Gold Star Futurity earned Horse Show of the Year in 2009. The association continued to evolve by hosting its inaugural sport horse show in 2016.
